Stefan Lovin is a Romanian jazz pianist, classical music performer and composer, known for blending traditional classical repertoire with improvisation and contemporary subtlety of musical approach. He holds a master’s degree in piano performance from the National University of Music Bucharest.
Lovin first gained recognition in 2005 at the Sibiu Jazz Festival (Romania), where he presented his own work using prepared piano techniques alongside compositional methods drawn from contemporary music and modern jazz. Later that year, at the Bucharest Jazz Festival, he gave the Romanian premiere of the legendary American pianist Chick Corea’s La Fiesta for solo piano, performing it in the same version Corea improvised in 1978.
In 2006, at the EUROPAfest gala held at the Romanian Athenaeum, Lovin presented his own orchestration of the jazz standard “Be My Love” by Nicholas Brodszky, performed with the Romanian String Orchestra conducted by Alexandru Ganea. Other notable appearances include a 2008 performance at the Contemporary Music Festival, where he interpreted “Astral Citadels” by Romanian composer Silvia Macovei; his 2015 solo project “Reimagining Bach”, a unique blend of improvisation and interpretation, based on J.S. Bach’s preludes and 2016 recital at the Teatrelli Hall in Bucharest in duet with Italian jazz singer Stefano Latteri.
Between 2016 and 2019, Stefan Lovin collaborated with singer Lorena Oltean, a disciple of folk master Grigore Lese, in the project “Echoes of Romania”, a musical initiative that merged Romanian folk tradition with the universe of the piano, creating an authentic dialogue between folklore and classical sonorities. Since 2019 he has dedicated himself exclusively to classical piano recitals, exploring works from Bach to Shostakovich with a personal and profound interpretative voice.
Recent projects include “Romanian Carols in Piano Resonance” ( Brasov and Sibiu Philharmonic Concert Hall, 2020) a project inspired by traditional Christmas carols; July 2021, a recital at the Romanian-American Festival organized by the Sibiu State Philharmonic where he performed a solo piano program centered on Romanian folk-inspired music, including his own piano transcription of George Enescu’s celebrated Prelude à l’unisson for string orchestra.
In August 2021, Lovin performed at the Bansko Jazz Festival in Bulgaria, sharing the stage presence with the renowned Romanian jazz vocalist Teodora Enache, further expanding his international presence. In 2023, Lovin enriched the “Easter Lights” project at the Sibiu State Philharmonic as a soloist, offering an evocative Easter recital that intertwined spiritual reflection and musical artistry.
Throughout these years, Stefan Lovin continues to explore the dialogue between tradition and innovation in his solo piano performances.
